Fashionspiration: Dance the Night Away

Fashion: Forever Evolving

Edited by Collette Osuna of Statements in Fashion

Hello everyone! I'm super excited to be making my debut as an IFB Links a la Mode Editor this week. As I visited each link, I was reminded that each had the exact thing in common with the next, that Fashion is Forever Evolving.

From  your Mothers fashion advice, a beauty "how to" video, or a legendary  icons passing, fashion is always changing and taking form in a new  shape. I am constantly thriving to acquaint myself with the "fashion unfamiliar." This weeks links did just that for me. I'm thrilled to be a new member of the IFB family and cannot wait to see everyone's posts throughout the upcoming year!

Pourquoi Pas?

{weheartit}

Why not keep on believing my loves? I have been job searching lately which warrants its fair share of ups and downs...especially when the fashionable industry you are dying to be in is a bit closed door. I, like everyone, have hit my points where I can no longer keep myself upbeat, but 90% of the time, I'm optimistic that my amazing opportunity is right around the corner. So I skip from coffee rendez-vous to networking event basking in the glory of New York City and feeling satisfied that at least I know I am home and in the right place.

Monday I had a coffee with a new friend who shared some rejuvenating words that caught me off guard...
No matter where you are in life, if you only focus on your impossible circumstances you are bound to sink. If you keep your head up and your eyes on your goal, you have no other choice but to keep on stepping and arrive at your destination. Its in the doubting, the questioning, the focusing on the negatives that the road gets impossible.
As a planner, be it events or life, the hardest thing for me to do is let go and trust God will provide. And even though I have been provided for time and time again, I still worry. So I'm glad that when I struggle with the calm of knowing everything will work out, I have great friends to be that constant reminder of trust and patience and faith.

UK Inspiration Topshop Style

I love living in New York for one main reason (among many) it has EVERYTHING! When running errands last week around SoHo I stopped in the hip UK store Topshop...you know...to see what all the fuss was about. I must say I was pleased. Although not everything was quite my style, there were plenty of pieces, staple and flair, that I loved and wanted immediately for Spring...if it ever comes!

Any UK Style Inspiration

to fit your Topshop fancy?

Fashionspiration: Alexander McQueen Does it Again

As I shopped Fifth Avenue yesterday to try and forget the fact that New York is STILL cold, I was stunned by Alexander McQueen...as always. I road the escalator up to Shoe Mecca at Begdorf Goodman, where the receptionist is Christian Louboutin, the manager is Jimmy Choo, Sales Lead Fendi, and Creative Director Manolo Blahnik!

As I circled the floor (and every other) in a fashion daze, I was in awe of a masterpiece. Alexander McQueen has a shoe on the market that is like taking sculpture for a walk! Can you believe the artistry that has gone into this creation? I must say I grow more and more enamored with Alexander McQueen with every passing season. And although I may wonder the wearability of such a shoe...I must tip my hat to this nod to true artistry. Bravo!

Road Trip! Spring Time means Travel Time

I'm officially ready to be doing something. Spring time is supposedly here (all evidence to the contrary in NYC) and I am ready for shorts, sandals, sunnies, and the open road. There is nothing better than travel time, with the windows rolled down and the best songs jamming on the radio. I have a good road trip burning a whole in my pocket and I need to stretch my legs...unfornately this may not be happening soon.

These two photos put me in that exact Road Trip state that I needed. I guess it will have to be my fix for now. Be sure to check out the new photo finding site I am officially addicted to...Pinterest! Create inspiration boards, like I have done since childhood, but with much less cutting, gluing, and general mess. Stop by and Follow me!

Fashion 101: Goodbye to a Legend - Elizabeth Taylor

It was a sad day yesterday, as the world said goodbye to the very last Hollywood Golden Age Legend. Elizabeth Taylor, dangerously curvy, fashion icon, died at 79 from heart failure that had her hospital bound many times in the last 7 years. Known for her many (8) marriages, to the likes of Nicky Hilton (Paris's grandfather) and Richard Burton, among others, she stayed very much in the public eye up until her death.

Setting the stage at 12 as a child star in National Velvet, Elizabeth's violet eyes, and talent transitioned her into great MGM roles as she grew...grew in to a curvacious sex bomb.  But MGM had yet to recognize this Golden Age Legend potential. Her first major movie was the original Father of the Bride in 1950.

She continued making many movies that she was not happy with, but MGM refused to cast her in anything higher. Finally she co-starred in Giant with James Dean in 1956 and her stardom catapulted. Her next 4 films were repeatedly Academy Award Nominations for Best Actress: Raintree County, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Suddenly, Last Summer, and finally winning for Butterfied 8.

By the time Cleopatra rolled around, Elizabeth Taylor was the highest paid actress, signing a one million dollar contract...two million after overtime...in 1960! This is when she began her scandalous infidelity with co-star Richard Burton. Later Burton would become her long time husband, as well as co-star in a total of 8 movies. One in which she received her 2nd Academy Award, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

Elizabeth Taylor had a passion for jewelry and was known for her fair share of opulence...including the 33.19 carat Krupp Diamond and the Cartier 69.42 carat Taylor-Burton Diamond. Oh and did I forget to mention the 50 carat La Peregrina Pearl Burton gave Taylor for Valentine's Day...that originally belonged to Queen Mary I of England?...yeah. So it made perfect sense when, one of the first celebrity endorsed (and most successful) perfumes, White Diamonds, was born.

Lessons in Seduction: French Lingerie Sexy Expertise

You always hear of French Lingerie when you are talking about seduction...in fact you always think of the French when you are thinking of something sexy. Pourqoui? Well maybe because they have that game down pat.

The French lingerie label Aubade is famous for their advertising campaign Lecons de Seduction, AKA Lessons in Seduction...oh so now it makes sense, the whole culture takes regular lessons on the art of seduction. That explains a lot !

Enjoy the French lessons in seduction, as well as an intro into the art of fine lingerie.

Lesson #23 Play innocent
Lesson #3 Place some obstacles in his path.

 Lesson #68 Irritate his friends
Lesson #98 Cause a spark

 Lesson #57 Distract the adversary
Lesson #25 Play Hide and Seek

Lesson #15 Know how to tell him no.
Lesson #21 Keep a distant air

Lesson #38 Pose a metaphysical problem for him
Lesson #41 Practice Black Magic

Lesson #42 Create dizziness and palpitations
Lesson #71 Banter with love

Lesson #101 Ask for his hand, then the other.
Lesson #108 Wrap him around your little finger.

The Aubade Lessons in Seductions are quite the trademark, and as a marketing professional I must say, job well done. The French most definitely have cornered the market on sexy lingerie for decades if not more...hmm I wonder how that started...I believe I may have a Fashion 101 soon on the history of lingerie! How exciting?! My favorite Aubade lessons are 3, 25, and 41...

What is your favorite Lesson in Seduction?

Take a Fashion Week Seat to Naeem Khan

Naeem Khan is one of my favorite designers so it is no surprise that the highlight to my Fashion Week for Autumn/Winter 2011 was a surprise seat at his fashion show! I was giddy with anticipation as I waited for the lights to dim, the crowd to simmer, and the show to start. My first New York Fashion Week had been a chaotic culmination of my wildest dreams and this was the cherry on top. I sat and waited in awed silence as I mentally recapped my amazing week and all the fashionable excitement whirling around me. Dream realized.

The show for Naeem Khan was like walking down the memory lane of Classic Hollywood. I felt at any point I was going to see Ginger Rogers skip down the catwalk, followed by the sashayed elegance of Grace Kelly. Every dress was sheer luxury.

A note from Naeem Khan:

This collection is an exploration of artistry, technique, and heritage coming together to redifine the glamour of the cosmopolitan woman

The details in this line were exquisite. Immaculate beading, ostrich feathers...embellished all over the place!

Any day, any time, I am a sucker for backless dresses, Naeem Khan is no exception. Many of the his dresses at this Fashion Week we fitted and conservative...until the model turned then BAM! sex appeal!

Many dresses had that fitted, flared Red Carpet appeal, but I really liked when Naeem Khan began to play with the shape. Short fluffy ostrich feather mini dresses next to loose chiffon draped gowns...perfect blend.

My favorite dress...one that literally made me gasp was this paisley chiffon, feathered dream in muted purple. The flowy fabric is ethereal and paired with the whispering feather shrug... I was ready for an excuse to wear this dress immediately!

I tip my cocktail hat to Naeem Khan, he takes home the Gold for most inspiring designer I saw through New York Fashion Week. He certainly delivered a show stopping finale for those with a seat to one of the last fashion shows of the week.

How did you enjoy Naeem Khan mes cheries?
