Fashion 101: The Journey of a Fashion Invitation

Mes cheris New York Fashion Week is right around the corner, and the fashion industry hits crunch mode this week. Long hours at the office or atelier, many Starbucks runs, all culminating to a beautiful Fall/Winter 2012 ensemble that kicks off the fashion week season for the world. Each invitation for a runway show is a labor of love, and much more goes into it than you might think, the journey of a fashion invitation is long and at times arduous, and here is it's story.

1. Save the Date
A Save the Date email blast is sent out to everyone for your show, hoping they will make space in their calendar to attend. This includes national, regional, and international press, fashion directors and executives of retailers, high volume bloggers, personal guests, family, and clients of the designer, and celebrities.

2. Requests
Then they reach out to you. Everyone from Anna Wintour to smalltime Joe Blogger sends their requests in to whichever shows they would like to attend that fashion week. Since shows at New York Fashion week often overlap in time and vary in locations, you have to request your ideal fashion shows to attend.

3. Process
Most brands utilise a Fashion PR Agency to handle the seating and press for their show. These PR professionals know everyone who needs to be in attendance in the fashion industry and does their best to seat them, and any celebrities as best as possible. So every request is sorted Yes, No, Maybe, and then replied back to the requester. *NOTE: this is harder than it sounds. You must process about 4,000 emails in roughly 3 weeks.*

4. Seat
The seating chart arrives from the printer, a large laminated blueprint of the floor plan for the show, ready to be filled with stickers of guests. These stickers get moved several times while you decide who gets front row, who gets booted for a more important member of the press, and who gets at standing ticket.

5. Standing
Every fashion show at Lincoln Center has Standing Tickets. These tickets are a First Come, First Serve basis for the best spots. You stand in a large crowd at the back of the risers behind all the seats. And if you're lucky, an invited guest doesn't show up and you have to fill their seat!

6. Invitations
Throughout this process a design team has decided on the look of that year's fashion show invitation. The invitations arrive from the printers and you begin stuffing them in envelopes, stamping them, and sending them out to all of the fashion industry you would like to fill a seat.

7. E-vite
The standing tickets get sent a matching e-vite for the fashion show which will have their barcode to check in at the front door.

8. RSVP
Some of the invitees will log in to Fashion GPS right away and RSVP for every show they wish to attend. Some will respond and someone from the PR team will manually log in and RSVP for them. This keeps the fashion show list up to date, and allows the team to seat the event properly.

FASHION GPS
All of these steps are managed through Fashion GPS, the web based management system for the fashion industry. "Fashion GPS enables companies to create a virtual mailing list this is used to send and track invitations, RSVPs, media requests and attendance at fashion events, while simultaneously enabling the virtual management of seating charts and rapid check-in at events." This digital warrior organized and changed to entire fashion industry and is used on a daily basis by everyone.

I Can Pack for That: Vail

It occured to me that all the packing how-to posts I have done for travel fashion have been for warm destinations ~~because that is the only place I want to travel~~! And how easy is it to pack for warm places when all your clothes are the equivalent of negligees? But I can pack for that too...How about a nice trip to Vail, Colorado? You twisted my arm.

Every celebrity seems to visit Vail, Colorado for their Christmas vacation...well that or St. Barths. I get the appeal, cozy cabins with grand fireplaces surrounded by a mountain range of grandeur. Plus, I still have to check "Learn how to snowboard" off of my Bucket List, so why not!

The West sure is completely breath taking. So I suppose I can pack for that...if I must. Besides New York City is having a very unseasonable warm winter!! This time last year the snow was covering cars and didn't move for 5 months. This week, we are in the 50's! I will take it, and I will rejoice!

Street Scene at Paris Couture Fashion Week

The fabulous are crawling out of hibernation for their early start to the fashion season. Paris Couture Fashion Week has arrived and I've never seen Paris so colorful. It really is exciting to walk the grounds of any fashion week, not only because of the shows, but the fabulous people watching around them! The street scene surrounding the couture happenings is just as inspirational and entertaining as the shows themselves...see for yourself!

Tommy Ton was on the scene to grab some amazing street scene photos as per ushe, of Paris Couture Fashion Week. I love how fabulous everyone is, and how every detail counts, every pattern pops, and every color is brighter than the next.

Paris Couture Fashion Week will run January 23rd - 26th, not a full week, but they are also riding off the coattails of Men's Fashion Week, and then will have Paris Fashion Week F/W 2012 by the end of February. Quite a busy calendar.

Food for thought: Americana is back in a HUGE way. Whether Native American, Classic Prep Americana, or the sporty hip of Grease Lightening. I love seeing the world embrace the varied American history.

What I Did This Weekend: Snow in NYC!

It finally snowed in New York this weekend and what a beautiful snow it was. Light, short, and melting by the next day. Perfect. I was so scarred by the last NYC Winter that I was very wary leading into November, espesh after October's freak snowstorm. Alas, here it is January and we got our first (and little baby) snow in NYC! Therefore what I did this weekend was walk through Riverside Park ~~my favorite NYC locals park~~ and book a lot of veg out movie seshes with the roommie!

Riverside Park is on the Hudson River along the Upper West Side. It is by far the most quaint and remote park in the city, with I would guess 98% locals. This is where I go running...although what I did this weekend was merely spectate the snow in NYC....not run on it.

Fun Fact: Riverside Park is where You've Got Mail was filmed. The whole movie was actually set in my neighborhood on the Upper West Side. As is, Will & Grace and How I Met Your Mother!

I love watching old favorite NYC movies and discovering they are right around the corner from my apartment! That actually happened this weekend when my roomie and I watched Uptown Girls!

I had quite a productive weekend. I ironed all of my clothing alterations. My fashion friend and I have regular sewing nights which we grabbed one on Martin Luther King Day when we were both off of work. I then cleaned my room putting away my better fitting clothes and I prepared my taxes for Tax Season 2012. To end the perfect weekend, I watched the NY Giants field goal kick their way into the Super Bowl! Since my dear Carolina Panthers are officially out, bless their hearts, I begin rooting for my NY teams. It's hard having a divided heart...

Tiffany & Co Christmas Windows

I happened to venture over to Fifth Avenue one more time before the Christmas Windows went down for good, and I just wanted to put one little sparkle of Christmas magic in your cold bitter Winter that is officially in full force. Vintage carousel was the theme of the window's of the 2011 Tiffany & Co Christmas windows. May you be whisked away in delight.

Having Breakfast at Tiffany's is so much harder when you live on the opposite side of Manhattan, but at least I do get to visit..even if it's for an afternoon coffee. After battling the tourists that are somehow still here in January (??) I think I got you guys a pretty clean shot, so you can feel like you are here with me.

The interior of the cases have the Tiffany & Co jewelry resting on the backs of little vintage carousel horses. Very cute, but unfortunately, only armed with my phone, the best picture taken was still just a reflection of Fifth Avenue behind me.

The gilded neo baroque mirrors framing the entrance, welcome you in to the ongoing dream that is Holly Golightly's Tiffany & Co. And the grand Christmas trees guarding all the jewelry cases are just superb.

Golden Globes 2012: Best and Worst Dressed

Well the awards season is officially in full swing and that means lots of great red carpet moments we are all on the edge of our seats to see. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed by the Golden Globes 2012 last night. Of course there were pretty gowns by a few, but as a whole I was unimpressed by the red carpet fashion. The best and worst dressed run down goes as follows...

Best Dressed Runners Up

Claire Danes worked the simple in the front, statement in the back look with this bedazzled J.Mendel gown. I actually really liked the dress but it didn't Wow me enough to make the top.

Katharine McPhee certainly has me excited for her new show "Smash"about making it on Broadway, ~~secret dream career of mine,~~ and I love her elegant nude ensemble a la Mrs. Donna Karen.

Reese Witherspoon took the red carpet by storm in this classic red Zac Posen show stopper. The sweetheart neckline and tailored detail fits America's Sweetheart to a T.

Best Dressed

But out of all the worthy adversaries, I must give my Golden Globes 2012 Best Dressed Award to Sofia Vergara in her absolutely stunning Vera Wang gown. Navy blue has always been a favorite color choice of mine for evening gowns since it's still a dark statement but not as often done, and add the crazy curves of Vergara and the feminine embellishment of Wang and you have a red carpet homerun!

Worst Dressed Runners Up

Ok, in their defense the clothing itself is not terrible, but could Brad and Angelina be any more unhappy? They look like two statues from Madame Toussaud's made a jail break! The white in this Atelier Versace gown just clashes with Angelina's skin making her look washed out, and with touches of that harsh fire engine red...not working for her. I'm sorry you get to sashay down the red carpet at the Golden Globes...at least look a little grateful.

I actually did some extra research for Julianna Margulies to find a flattering picture of her in this eggplant Naeem Khan gown. Naeem Khan is one of my favorite designers...but this gown makes Julianna actually look like an eggplant, she is one big column with no curve, no shape. There is a gorgeous deep V in the back which normally gets my vote every time. This Worst Dressed nom makes me sad.

Madonna almost had something lovely with the start of this Reem Acra gown, but what craft project went awry on bottom?

Stylist mishap for Lea Michele in this Marchesa gown. Let's touch quickly on the fact that her hair and makeup styling makes her look like a man rather than the TV diva she is. Moving on, Marchesa... again, one of my favorite designers... but didn't we learn from Rose McGowan's Dental Floss dress at the 1998 VMA's that showing too much can be a bad idea? But true, that is extreme and sheer can be done correctly...even if that's the argument...Halle Berry already wore a better version of this dress at the 2002 Oscar's. Note: If it has been done, don't try a repeat.

Worst Dressed

Although our Worst Dressed Runners Up so far are mainly for ill fitting or color qualms, Sarah Michelle Gellar in this tie dyed Monique Lhuillier gown has its own problems. A big dress with a big print, allows no room for anyone to win, so sadly that just leaves one very lonely Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes 2012. And that's a shame because I love Buffy.

Did you enjoy the Golden Globes 2012? I personally had the channel surf between the awards show and the amazing Once Upon a Time, gotta hate it when shows double book. Overall, I thought the red carpet fashion last night fell a little flat, and have high hopes for the Oscar's to redeem the awards season next Tuesday.

I have been in the market lately for a classic black pump for the office. Well a shoe hit me out of nowhere today and made me realize why I've been coming up short. I need a black wedge pump! It was love at first sight mes cheris and has quickly become my latest obsesh.

Of course Jimmy Choo would be great to fill this black wedge pump void...but $600 I do not have.

Shopping in Las Vegas: Hipster Emporium

While sitting down for a nice patio lunch in Las Vegas, I spotted this lovely little Las Vegas boutique across the way called R+D Hipster Emporium. The title alone intrigued me so as soon as I had finished my meal, off I went to do some shopping in Las Vegas.

My favorite storefront in Manhattan is the All Saints store for the same reason...rows and rows of vintage Singer sewing machines. It gets me in the door every time...with baited anticipation might I add.

Stocked with cute hipster merchandise in an array of Native American print smocks to high waisted retro denim and lots of choices for layering, the R+D Hipster Emporium did not fail to provide exactly what their name implies. This boutique makes shopping in Las Vegas an adventure, beyond the same old brand name hubs you expect. Refreshing.

I loved exploring this Las Vegas boutique for quirky vintage t-shirts and killer shoes. Not to mention their great selection of artful coffee table books that I wanted to add to my living room collection stat!

Fashion Fit: Look Good and Feel Good in the New Year

2011 was a hard financial year on this economy but the fortunate thing when you are low on cash? You can go running for free! You can look good and feel good in the New Year (something you may have already started doing)! I love running even when it sometimes doesn't love me back, this weekend NYC had a glorious 57 degree high...it was positively Spring outside so I had to take advantage of the wonderful running weather. But fashion doesn't end with high heels, you can be fashion fit for your active lifestyle as well!

Red Hair: Dare to Go Deeper?

I am thinking of going redhead mes cheris...really red. Although I'm not exactly which shade I'm bold enough to go for, that will also look good on me. I love red hair and whether I am my steady strawberry blonde or a dark auburn, I just love the statement red hair makes. Red hair is bolder and more unique than brunette and don't believe what they tell you...it's not blondes that have all the fun...it's redheads! At least that is my assessment, after being every color in the beauty aisle!

I love Alison Sudol's hair (lead singer of A Fine Frenzy), it has a more Ariel from The Little Mermaid quality but I think I want a deeper red.

Downtown Chic on a Cold Winter Night

It's a breeze to dress fashionable when it's 72 degrees outside...but how do you dress downtown chic when it is a cold winter night? Living here in NYC, I have mastered the art of layering and its a pretty fun game to play. Here is what I wore for an edgy look for dinner downtown in December...with a fur coat of course.

This coffee rouched Helmut Lang dress was transitioned to winter with a basic long sleeve shirt and leather leggings. Don't forget to throw in boots and a warm fur coat for good measure. Downtown chic always calls for leather, black, and boots... and isn't it lucky that so does a cold winter night?!

A funky hairstyle is also crucial, especially when you need to avoid the harsh winter winds. I french braided it to the side and the alternated pinning into a low side chignon. No plan, just braid and pin. Voila! Downtown chic and ready to brave the elements.

Viva Las Vegas!

I hope you all enjoyed your wonderful holiday break and aren't too heart broken to return to work today. I had a great time with my family out in Vegas, but I missed you all so much, so here I am reporting for duty on all the Vegas fun at Christmas time. Viva Las Vegas is most definitely right...

Whether it was the flight over Arizona, the Hoover Dam, or exploring Red Rock and Zion National Park, even the outskirts of Vegas are fun to explore! I went on a photo expedition, I just love the colors and grandeur of the West.

The Las Vegas Strip is an adventure in itself, full of decked out casino's from every country, you can visit NY, Paris, Venice, and Cairo and only walk down one long block. People have been singing Viva Las Vegas for quite a while because it is a little burst of fun in the middle of the desert!

And I can't properly document my trip without the Bellagio Fountains which I really did quite enjoy! So with some outdoor adventure and some indoor fun the sights of Vegas were well worth the trip. I am definitely returning with my girlfriends though to paint the town red!

What are your Christmas traditions? This is our family's first Christmas without my Grandma alive, we normally would all gather at her house for a feast. During my lovely weekend touring my friend around for Christmas in NYC, we made sure to beeline over to Gaga's Workshop at Barney's New York for an adventure. I was blown away by the amazing merchandising, you were literally swept away into the world of Lady Gaga, it was awesome...and a little scary.

Even the Barney's New York storefront has been transformed for Gaga's Workshop. Lady Gaga is like a giant carnival attraction welcoming you from Madison Avenue and then the massive centerpiece in her workshop.

Every station has a sculptural piece as avant garde as Lady Gaga herself.

At Gaga's Workshop you can buy clothes, accessories, Christmas ornaments, candy and more!

Here is the Belgian Dark Chocolate Armadillo Shoe that Lady Gaga is so famous

for rocking from the late great Alexander McQueen.

This weekend I scouted out another hip NYC Digs for you to discover mes cheris! The hip Lower East Side hang out is discreet and well designed from the front and just as inviting on the inside. Death & Co keeps an ambiance of a day forgotten where cocktails were as stylish as the people making them and the bar crowd was just as intriguing.

Born from the spirit of the Prohibition, when alcohol was considered evil and bars were often called Death & Companies, came the revived art of exquisitely crafted cocktails at Death & Co on the Lower East Side.

DIY Decor: Glass Bottle Fireplace

I am a firm believer with being just as fashionable in your home as on the street, I.E. decorating your home to be as fabulous as you are. DIY decor is an easy way to channel your inner creativity and have a beautiful home in the process. Many people (myself included) love glass bottle fireplace decoration...or any decoration with your wine and liquor bottles, so here is how you can do that without risking a college dorm room mishap.

1. Start by stripping your collection of bottles.
You can do this easily by soaking them in hot water for 30 minutes. The labels will peel right off.

2. Clean out your fireplace of any debris ~~or tacky dated accessories.~~

3. Carve the base of the candlesticks to fit the opening of each bottle.

4. Arrange the bottles, place in the fireplace, and light the candles for ambiance.

This is a pretty simple DIY Decor project on the scale of 0 to Martha Stewart, you can be quite a novice. A glass bottle fireplace looks so nice to give a focal point to your fireplace without burning a fire (some of us may not be allowed to use our fireplace).

About mid October, the ice rinks begin opening all around New York City. With the rinks, then follow the NYC Christmas Markets!

I made a pit stop in the Union Square Holiday Market on a lunch break at work. There are always great food vendors, jewelry designers and local artists. I especially loved these lanterns being sold in one of the shops, how cute?!

DIY Christmas Decorations: Paper Wreath

I hope you enjoyed the last DIY Christmas Decorations post on Winter White Pumpkins and have had a chance to turn your old Fall pumpkins into glitter creations. But the DIY continues as I continue to show you what my apartment looks like this holiday season. This particular Paper Wreath DIY project turned out better than I expected and is a great entrance to our Winter Wonderland, my roommates and I have set up for our upcoming Christmas party!

Paper Wreath

-drawing paper

-scissors

-large scallop edge circle paper punch (optional)

-pixie dust glitter

-Elmer's glue

-Pencil

-round styrofoam ring

-hot glue gun & sticks

time: approx 30hrs.

This was my relaxing Thanksgiving weekend craft while I bunkered down

with ongoing episodes of FRIENDS. ~~That show never gets old.~~

1. Start by cutting out circles from the drawing paper with a scallop edge like a cartoon flower.
**Tip: this is where you can use a large sized paper punch in this shape to be faster**
2. Cut out more than you think you will need. The more packed the circles are, the more full the paper wreath will look.

3. To make the paper cluster, use the blunt eraser edge of a pencil. Place it in the center of the circle and then fold and squish the sides along the pencil like you are covering the lid of a bowl with saran wrap.

**Tip: since this is thick paper, be sure to thoroughly crinkle the paper so it's softer looking.**

4. Then rub with your finger the edges of the paper clusters with Elmer's glue and immediately dip in pixie glitter. This will give the paper wreath it's snow-kissed look.

5. Now begin hot glueing the paper clusters on the styrofoam round, tightly together. (Don't worry about waiting for the glitter to dry, it will get there). **Tip: use the pencil (eraser end) to hold the cluster while the glue dries (20-40 seconds). Since the clusters are so close, they will want to fall off unless the hot glue has dried.**

6. Hot glue a ribbon to the back of your paper wreath to tie to your wreath hanger on your door.

Now your door will welcome your guests into your winter wonderland with your fabulous DIY Christmas decoration! Who said a paper wreath can't be chic? And you know my theory about anything that glitters...

DIY Christmas Decorations: Winter White Pumpkins

Christmas is my favorite holiday, so I go into Christmas decoration mode as soon as the Macy's Santa comes strolling down Broadway to Herald Square. So for my Black Friday, I strolled up Columbus Avenue to Michael's Arts & Crafts to get a couple tools to begin transforming my apartment into a winter wonderland. I began my DIY by turning my little Fall pumpkins into winter white pumpkins!

DIY Christmas Decorations: winter white pumpkins is a great project because it allows you to extend the life of your little Autumn gems...so here's what you'll need:

craft paint (cream/off-white)

paint brush

fine pixie glitter (white)

Elmer's glue

mini pumpkins

1. Paint the pumpkin white (except the base)
2. Let dry for 5-10 minutes

3. Flip over and paint base.
4. Let dry for 5-10 minutes.
**Repeat steps 1-4 for a second coat of paint**

5. Rub thin layer of Elmer's glue all over pumpkin with fingers.
6. Shake glitter on pumpkin immediately (over a clean-up paper). Be sure to coat evenly!

7. Allow to dry and then decorate chez vous!

I always love finding new DIY Christmas decorations for my home and this was first time attempting the winter white pumpkins. They turned out so great and took no time at all. I can't to show you the rest of my DIY Christmas decoration projects I have going on right now... so stay tuned!

It has been unseasonably warm for the holidays in New York City so far but I am soaking up every warm ray the sun will give us! So what I wore for Thanksgiving was the perfect Fall outfit without any evidence of winter's chill stealing the thunder. But in times like these, you more often find yourself having to "make-do" with what you have. But what's wrong with that?! Being content with what you already have is the big hurdle to happiness...right? So here are some pointers to gather inspiration, shop in your closet, and create a fabulous new outfit for Thanksgiving...or any time.

1. Gather Inspiration
Pinterest is a very good site for building inspiration boards full of pictures that inspire your personal style. AND I personally make sure I post mucho inspiration for your fashionista pleasure like here, here, and here! Whether it is a color scheme in a modern painting or an actual piece of clothing from the latest runway of Oscar de la Renta, an inspiration board is important to push you to spin those creative wheels and think outside the box.

Organize your Boots: DIY Boot Shapers

I did some major Fall cleaning this Saturday! After working for two straight weeks with only enough time to go home, sleep, and start all over...this weekend was a God send. My room however, was proof of my insane schedule, as it was in shambles. This is not my norm for acceptable tidiness and I was going crazy. Out of my Mary Poppins adventure I finally organized my closet further and found a solution to organize my boots! Enjoy this simple DIY Boot Shapers tutorial may it inspire you this Monday to reform your own closet and organize your boots!

DIY Boot Shapers

1. Start with some cardboard.

2. Cut out large rectangle pieces (one side of the box).
3. Roll them up, cardboard side out. Optional: Paint a fun color.
4. Hot glue in place to prevent unraveling.

5. Organize your boots in your closet and enjoy your new found freedom of being able to find them all!

Art and Fashion: Private Giorgio Armani Event

I hopped over to a private art event at the Giorgio Armani boutique this week on Madison Avenue. It was a great turnout to see the art exhibition with Evelyn Tompkins featuring artist Marta Luz Gutierrez.

The artist, Marta Luz Gutierrez, did a full wall installation made up of many small canvases that worked together. And a four piece tribal band had the crowd going all night ~~along with the wine and mojito bar~~.

Sorry for going MIA recently but Time Warner decided to abandon ship at my apartment and with all the hours I'm working at my latest job I couldn't exactly call to fix it! I find myself, yet again, in another season of the fashion industry's notorious long hours. But truth be told, I still am so blessed to be living my dream! The long hours of the fashion industry do not only exist the month before each fashion week, every sector of the industry seems to have their busy time. For the sales team this is Market Week for every season.

So I am currently working on the sales team at a luxury brand that I have always admired. I have never worked in sales before so this is a great learning experience for me, as I build my professional portfolio. Market Week consists of selling all the looks you see walk the runways to buyers who in turn put them on the racks of their stores for YOU to buy!

When we work long hours it is because we are unpacking the samples (that just arrived from Milan, in my case). Categorizing them, pricing them, changing their hangers, and merchandising them so that what was once an empty space turns into a beautiful showroom for market week.

After the showroom is set up we are creating the market week buy books, which is the bible of the products for that season. Buy books include styles, fabric codes and colors, corresponding swatches, notes from production on any changes, and pricing and availability. Basically the answers to any questions a buyer from say, Bloomingdale's, may have about their purchase for the Spring/Summer 2012 collection they are piecing together. Visit NYC and NOT Look Like a Tourist

Today's post goes out to Ava, of My Skin Concierge Ava, who hit me up for some advice on dressing like a New Yorker. She is visiting NYC for the holidays (such a magical time), and wants some advice on how to NOT look like a tourist in NYC! Great question... I'm so glad you asked.

How to not look like a tourist in NYC

1. Black, Black, Black
Black is the go to "color" of New Yorkers, it is always chic, and easy to put together. Most subscribe to the theory of the more black the better. Also it makes you look fierce, so no one questions your street smart...also important but we'll get to that later.

2. Bundle up in Layers
It gets really (really) cold in NYC. ~~Fortunately, the holidays is when the cold is still charming winter chill rather than the wrath of Mother Nature like us locals have to endure from January - March.~~ Start with a base thermal layer, then a hip sweater, topped off with a super structured (preferably rocked out) leather jacket. For pants switch between black skinny jeans and black leggings. Then add a statement scarf, a floppy beanie, and leather gloves (you may need more coverage than these half gloves but I couldn't resist). *Oh and the Starbucks is also crucial to your warmth as well as your New York street cred.*

3. Boots
New Yorkers pretty much wear boots all year round, don't get me started on the people that wear this exact outfit in July (yes I've witnessed this exact incident). The important thing to remember as a Tourist "New Yorker" is that you are not used to walking as much as we are everyday, and your feet will seriously hurt. But never under any circumstances are you allowed to wear sneakers unless you are coming from the actual gym in your workout clothes. Here are some adorable combat boots with only a slight wedge for style and all the right sass.

4. Backpack
You will inevitably have lots of tourist things to carry with you. Camera, maps, guide books, souvenirs, and maybe snacks. GREAT TIMING! Not only is the backpack the biggest accessory trend to hit the runways recently, it is perfect for hiding your tourist stash without leaving you unprepared! *Remember a smart phone is vitally important* it can give you directions so you don't wander in circles with a map, plus everyone wears them for good tunes to drown out the sirens.

5. Bling
Layer on the accessories and rock like no tomorrow. Multiple layered rings and bracelets are super hot right now. Grab a handful at Forever 21 and wear them all at once! *Let your confidence bling too* 90% of a New Yorker persona is in their demeanor. -When you go somewhere you don't Sunday Stroll, you power walk. -You wear an outfit likes it's the hottest thing from the runways of Lincoln Center. -And you definitely don't let people walk all over you...you are NOT rude, but you are always assertive.

NYC Digs: The Village Halloween Parade

I promised you guys photos of The Village Halloween Parade and I did not want to disappoint, especially since I was in it! If you are not obsessed with NYC or live here let me fill you in...every Halloween Greenwich Village has a massive Halloween Parade that way too many people go to, see for yourself...

It took me 10 minutes to simply exit the subway and reach the street downtown.

Every group that passed had music and dancing, The Village Halloween Parade is a great time if you have a good seat and don't have to be pushed around at the back.

It is so funny walking around NYC on Halloween, the city is crawling with weird people...more than normal. I love seeing everyone's costumes, especially the very committed ones.

Like this dad who dressed as Hagrid from Harry Potter even walked on stilts

all night and talked like him! And his kids were Gryffindor students!

I have been feeling a bit out of sorts the past week and a half because thanks to Verizon I have had no texts and no voicemail...oh and it's cost me a job...I called to reconcile the situation after going in to the store twice to fix the problem and their staff clearly does nothing above the bare minimum of what they are required and has no need to appease you as a customer any further. So BRAVO VERIZON.

Latest Obsession #3: Amazing Gossip Girl Fashion
Spotted. One fashionista, who like the rest of them, can't get enough of Eric Damien's charm over the Gossip Girl closet. I am forever entranced by the costumes of the GG cast, but the latest episode (once I caught myself back up) was amazing. The funny thing was it was all Blair Waldorf!! I never like her style, I'm more a rocked out Serena, but watch out!

I didn't really have a plan when I started doing this. I knew I wanted a French braid that wrapped around my head and ended with something looped and braided.

So once I got to the bottom of the braid, I ponytailed the rest of my hair together and started pinning loops of hair down, and alternated by braiding some pieces and stretching them across the updo. It turned out pretty fun.

Costume Ideas for an Epic Halloween

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, hands down. I love going through costume ideas and then getting out my sewing machine and creating my next epic Halloween. I am a firm believer in making your own Halloween costume whether that means you actually sew the whole costume together from scratch or you go buy pieces to assemble…whatever you do STEER CLEAR OF THE COSTUME STORES!! You will overspend a significant amount on something the equivalent of a trash bag. Do not do it!

My last year's costume was Marie Antoinette. I used a mask a beautiful lace mask I had bought as a souvenir in Italy, and I styled my hair into a massive bouffant and powdered it with baby powder. It was very fun!

Do Some Good Today: Charity Fashion Show

I'm off to Connecticut today, ~~taking the train in a cocktail dress as only the great Old Hollywood Stars do~~, to volunteer backstage at a Charity Fashion Show for the Wellspring Trust foundation. The event is What's Your Worth as it features Worth Clothing. I am very excited and will report back.

Be sure to check it out and make a donation. The Wellspring Trust foundation raises support and awareness for African women and children through film making. There most recent trip resulted in a documentary from Nairobi, Kenya and proceeds will benefit the orphaned children of the Flying Kites Oasis program. This charity fashion show is not to be missed!

Fashion 101: History of Turban Fashion

Turbans have long been a cycled trend of fashion that makes cameo appearances in our Western civilization. This Eastern staple is an accessory that lends an exotic hand in completing a look. But the history of turban fashion goes back further than Sex and the City 2 believe it or not! And in today's Fashion 101 you can discover just how far back our history books had us adorning our heads with this Eastern influence!

Originally reigning from our more Eastern neighbors, the turban has long been worn for necessity as protection from sun and sand in the desert in addition to an important part of their religious costume. The forehead is always left exposed so that it may touch the ground during times of prayer and bowing. The colors and fabric ranges in accordance to class, education, religion, and occasion. For example, pink is associated with Spring and renewal and therefore is often used in wedding ceremonies in Northern India. And in Shi'a Islam wearing a black turban with a white cap symbolizes lineage from Muhammad and high education. Just as meanings of color vary by society so do the appropriateness of different turban styles.

Fashionspiration: Cropped Top and High Waisted Jeans

I had a lovely weekend brunch with my roomies and what a day to celebrate the amazing Fall weather! I wore my Audrey trench walking to Isabella's on the Upper West Side, and then by the time we took a walk along Riverside Park it was high waisted jeans and cropped top weather! The fedora was of course just for good measure…

These Dolce & Gabbana high waisted jeans came after many months of shopping everywhere!
Where did I finally find them you might ask? Buffalo Exchange…$40…brand new still with tags.
Bet you didn't see that coming?! Have faith in your shopping, the item your heart is set on will always surface.

Speaking of my heart being set on something, here is my plate from Isabella's. Carmelized banana stuffed french toast, topped with Grand Marnier strawberries. Mmm I love NY!
