The Jennifer Lawrence style so far has been very guilded, maybe a tip to some upcoming awards n'est-ce pas? Regardless, I'm loving the funky twist on the Old Hollywood glamour dress she rocked at The Hunger Games movie premiere. And look at that hairstyle! I will be trying that in the VERY near future.

Her co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson are certainly hotties. I have a feeling I will be just as torn between this love triangle in the movie as I was in the book. For those of you who have yet to read it...you have no idea! You must read The Hunger Games as soon as possible and then go see the film. What I Wore | St. Patrick's Day Weekend

It was a beautiful St. Patrick's Day weekend and I hope you celebrated properly. NYC was built by the Irish and since I am Irish it's even more fitting to really get in to the celtic mood! I took a weekend break and headed out to Connecticut with a bestie for some needed R+R. What I wore was demanding the Spring weather stick around for a long time.

 I rocked fun color with my floral print crop top sweater, thanks Beacon's Closet, Brooklyn. Perfect for a subtle touch of St. Patrick's Day green. This cobalt blue accordion pleat skirt from Banana Republic is the latest fav of my wardrobe and is perfection with the top. This weekend I switched out my Winter wardrobe for my Spring wardrobe...one of my favorite things to do! I love finding my favorite clothes that I forgot about since August. And I LOVE pairing my old favorites with my new favorites, as in this case!

Then armed with lots of bangles, skinny watches, and a cobalt beaded necklace, 

I was ready for a Guinness! 

My bestie represented her Irish roots very well with a deep emerald green. You cannot go wrong with a high to low dress especially when it has that gorgeous cutout trim! 

I spy with my Old Hollywood obsessed eye an iconic Upper East Side apartment....can you guess who lived here? This is the apartment of Audrey Hepburn as Holly GoLightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's! This is one of my all time favorite movies and walking down this block feels like they are about to yell action and I will Audrey Hepburn herself stroll down the stairs in her Little Black Dress, hat, and diamonds. It gives me chills to live in a city that is so iconic and special. I just love NYC.

What I Did This Weekend: The Oscars, The Artist, The Lower East Side

This was the most jam packed weekend I have had since New Year's, mainly because New York Fashion Week does tend to demand 100% of your social life. So apparently I managed to fit 2 months of social events into 2 days. What I did this weekend started with a band in the Lower East Side and lots of catch up with good friends, followed by seeing The Artist in an iconic NYC theatre, and ended (very late) with a viewing of the 84th Annual Academy Awards! And I found that The Oscars did not disappoint!

The dresses from The Oscar's Red Carpet this year were pretty (I have a few of my favs below, in no particular order) but I must say I was far more excited (and impressed) with the movie round-up for this year's Academy Awards.

Well one movie at The Oscars that blew me away, The Artist, a classic silent film, was beautiful, enrapturing, and truly unique. A marvelous tribute to the magic of the movies and how you should feel when you experience a film. I walked across Central Park to the NYC icon The Paris Theatre (the French theatre Carrie visits in Sex and the City) and was transported into movie magic by the ambience and the incredible film that was The Artist! Here's a snippet in case you are behind...



I also ventured to the Lower East Side, the grunge hip Manhattan neighborhood known for vintage shopping, tattoo parlors, and lots 'o bars, and met up with a few friends to hear a new band. (I love New York). Stephie Coplan and the Pedestrians ended up being really fun. Catchy songs with a less hateful Lily Allen sense of humor, these guys put on a fun show! Please be sure to give their single Jerk a listen! The Lower East Side is so great for diving into a bar and discovering musicians. We happened to be invited to The Living Room for a listen and I'm glad we did!



Oh and I almost forgot to mention...did anyone miss Angelina Jolie's Barbizon leg at The Oscars? I was already laughing the second she stood still. But in case you missed it...there is a twitter account created in her honor...@AngiesRightLeg. I died laughing when I saw this tweet. In 10 minutes it had 1,600 followers by the end of the night it had accrued 6,500 followers and counting. I'm so glad someone finally called her out on her bullshhh...well you know. But in all seriousness...she really needs to eat a burger, the girl looks terrible.

14 Days of Valentines | Day 14: Film

The day is finally here HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY mes cheris! May your valentine, whomever they be, know they are the luckiest person in the world to be with you. For today's 14 Days of Valentines I wanted to feature something that involves spending time together. And what better than sharing great wine, good cheese and chocolates and snuggling up together to watch a film about love? Day 14: Film. 

Yes, I know these are all borderline chic flicks, well the Notebook is all the way, especially if your man is not a film buff and will REALLY not get the Classic Old Hollywood films but hey...it's Valentine's Day. This is the one day a year I agree you get to play the sappy-love movie card (which in my defense I always advocate should not be forced on the guy). Well if you are lucky to have a Valentine for these 14 Days of Valentines, I hope you have come up with some great gift ideas and that it is a memorable Valentines!

Golden Globes 2012: Best and Worst Dressed

Well the awards season is officially in full swing and that means lots of great red carpet moments we are all on the edge of our seats to see. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed by the Golden Globes 2012 last night. Of course there were pretty gowns by a few, but as a whole I was unimpressed by the red carpet fashion. The best and worst dressed run down goes as follows...

Best Dressed Runners Up

 Claire Danes worked the simple in the front, statement in the back look with this bedazzled J.Mendel gown. I actually really liked the dress but it didn't Wow me enough to make the top.

 Katharine McPhee certainly has me excited for her new show "Smash"about making it on Broadway, secret dream career of mine, and I love her elegant nude ensemble a la Mrs. Donna Karen.

Reese Witherspoon took the red carpet by storm in this classic red Zac Posen show stopper. The sweetheart neckline and tailored detail fits America's Sweetheart to a T.

Best Dressed

But out of all the worthy adversaries, I must give my Golden Globes 2012 Best Dressed Award to Sofia Vergara in her absolutely stunning Vera Wang gown. Navy blue has always been a favorite color choice of mine for evening gowns since it's still a dark statement but not as often done, and add the crazy curves of Vergara and the feminine embellishment of Wang and you have a red carpet homerun!

Worst Dressed Runners Up

Ok, in their defense the clothing itself is not terrible, but could Brad and Angelina be any more unhappy? They look like two statues from Madame Toussaud's made a jail break! The white in this Atelier Versace gown just clashes with Angelina's skin making her look washed out, and with touches of that harsh fire engine red...not working for her. I'm sorry you get to sashay down the red carpet at the Golden Globes...at least look a little grateful.

I actually did some extra research for Julianna Margulies to find a flattering picture of her in this eggplant Naeem Khan gown. Naeem Khan is one of my favorite designers...but this gown makes Julianna actually look like an eggplant, she is one big column with no curve, no shape. There is a gorgeous deep V in the back which normally gets my vote every time. This Worst Dressed nom makes me sad.

 Madonna almost had something lovely with the start of this Reem Acra gown, but what craft project went awry on bottom?

Stylist mishap for Lea Michele in this Marchesa gown. Let's touch quickly on the fact that her hair and makeup styling makes her look like a man rather than the TV diva she is.  Moving on, Marchesa... again, one of my favorite designers... but didn't we learn from Rose McGowan's Dental Floss dress at the 1998 VMA's that showing too much can be a bad idea? But true, that is extreme and sheer can be done correctly...even if that's the argument...Halle Berry already wore a better version of this dress at the 2002 Oscar's. Note: If it has been done, don't try a repeat.

Worst Dressed

Although our Worst Dressed Runners Up so far are mainly for ill fitting or color qualms, Sarah Michelle Gellar in this tie dyed Monique Lhuillier gown has its own problems. A big dress with a big print, allows no room for anyone to win, so sadly that just leaves one very lonely Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes 2012. And that's a shame because I love Buffy.

Did you enjoy the Golden Globes 2012? I personally had the channel surf between the awards show and the amazing Once Upon a Time, gotta hate it when shows double book. Overall, I thought the red carpet fashion last night fell a little flat, and have high hopes for the Oscar's to redeem the awards season next Tuesday.

Bryant Park: Summer Movies in the Park

New York City has an unending activity list to partake in throughout the summer. Last night I met up with some friends in Bryant Park for their Summer Movies in the Park Series. Last night they showed Airplane, the classic 1980's comedy.

I got their early to save a spot for our group, and even a couple hours ahead of showtime, it was packed! But I had some time to lounge out and read, in a cute white lace tank and pink polka dot shorts! Then once my friends met up with me, we had a lovely picnic from Fairway, the famous NYC grocery store. Cheese, hummus and pita, fresh olives...the food was amazing.

Bryant Park: Summer Movies in the Park was fun, the food was great, and the company was even better. It is definitely a must-see if you are in New York on a Monday night.

Fashionspiration: Afternoon Movie

Went out for an afternoon movie with the roommates and saw Crazy Stupid Love. LOVED it, laughed so hard! Plus, can you really get any better than a buff Ryan Gosling either topless or suited up throughout the entire film? Je pense pas! 

Perfect for an afternoon movie is a relaxed, classic look. This is me doing a classic look...yes I meant what I said. I actually have my shirt tucked in, with a belt no less, my mother would be so proud ! Of course its with ripped jeans, platform wedges, and a vintage scarf wrapped around my head but hey beggars can't be choosers! This is as close as I get.

And in a stunnah pose for the back shot, otherwise you just feel awkward...or like you're in timeout. I just got these wedges and the belt this weekend, so wearing them in ASAP was vital. obv.

Harry Potter Tonight: The End is Here

After 10 years, 4,100 pages, and 17 hours and 32 minutes of movies, there are only 2 hours and 30 minutes left until the journey is at an end. Harry Potter unveils tonight at midnight to the public and yours truly will be there lining up with friends to say the last farewell. The end is here and it has been a fun ride, although I'm not the biggest HP fan of my friends, I have quite enjoyed experiencing the magic. 

From tots to awkward teens to dashing young adults, watching the cast of Harry Potter over the last 10 years has been something fun to grow with. I remember being drug to it in high school and how my intrigue grew continually with each film, so this final chapter will be one for the ages. 

 

Oh and I would not be doing proper justice to you, if I did not include this picture of the shocking difference in the Harry Potter boys now that they are grown...oh my goodness! When I saw how hot they had gotten last week at the London premier, I couldn't believe it!

Here is the New York City Harry Potter Premier that was this past week at Lincoln Center (ahem...in my neighborhood)! I was running errands and was wondering what all these people were doing camped out, then I saw the Gryffindor scarves, brooms, and signs and it clicked! Wish I could've seen the cast make their red carpet walk but alas it was 3:00 at this point, I was not waiting 3 hours...sorry guys!

I'm hopelessly tired from working 36 hours the last 3 days...on my feet! Work hard, play hard is definitely New York City's motto, BUT at least I was outside, talking to trendy people, and this was my office for the weekend...

So hey, Meatpacking District? I really can't complain! USA Networks is touring an event nationally that started in NYC on short films. Tony & Ridley Scott chose 8 up and coming directors to put together a piece, celebrating the diversity of the American character. The outcome of each piece is really great! Check them out if you have a few, by going to USA Networks Character Project. And BTW my absolute fav from the set was Perfect by Amie Steir, it takes an unexpected turn...that is hilarious!

Celebrity Crushing: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Long gone are his days as the cute boy on 3rd Rock from the Sun, the last few years have brought Joseph Gordon-Levitt back to the forefront and aren't we so excited. I must say I have very high respect for actors who actually stick to their craft rather than playing the tabloid game, and I must tip my hat to Joseph Gordon-Levitt for doing just that.

I hadn't realized how grown-up the child star had gotten until I saw {500} Days of Summer...and was totally crushing on him at that point. Who could resist his cute dimples and adorable grin?? He has almost a boy next door quality that makes him feel approachable and respected. 

And the sharp suits he has been donning lately a la Inception are beyond superb! I can't adequately describe my love for a man in a great suit...mmm...it's just a really good thing. And to add the cherry on top, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has this James Dean old school look to his style that is classic and refreshing.

Talented, classy, and oh so cute, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the perfect under-the-radar star that has every girl's heart fluttering once she takes notice. Keep up the good work Mr. Gordon-Levitt, I can't wait to see what you choose to take on next. 

Fashion 101: Goodbye to a Legend - Elizabeth Taylor

It was a sad day yesterday, as the world said goodbye to the very last Hollywood Golden Age Legend. Elizabeth Taylor, dangerously curvy, fashion icon, died at 79 from heart failure that had her hospital bound many times in the last 7 years. Known for her many (8) marriages, to the likes of Nicky Hilton (Paris's grandfather) and Richard Burton, among others, she stayed very much in the public eye up until her death.

Setting the stage at 12 as a child star in National Velvet, Elizabeth's violet eyes, and talent transitioned her into great MGM roles as she grew...grew in to a curvacious sex bomb.  But MGM had yet to recognize this Golden Age Legend potential. Her first major movie was the original Father of the Bride in 1950.

She continued making many movies that she was not happy with, but MGM refused to cast her in anything higher. Finally she co-starred in Giant with James Dean in 1956 and her stardom catapulted. Her next 4 films were repeatedly Academy Award Nominations for Best Actress: Raintree County, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Suddenly, Last Summer, and finally winning for Butterfied 8.

By the time Cleopatra rolled around, Elizabeth Taylor was the highest paid actress, signing a one million dollar contract...two million after overtime...in 1960! This is when she began her scandalous infidelity with co-star Richard Burton. Later Burton would become her long time husband, as well as co-star in a total of 8 movies. One in which she received her 2nd Academy Award, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

Elizabeth Taylor had a passion for jewelry and was known for her fair share of opulence...including the 33.19 carat Krupp Diamond and the Cartier 69.42 carat Taylor-Burton Diamond. Oh and did I forget to mention the 50 carat La Peregrina Pearl Burton gave Taylor for Valentine's Day...that originally belonged to Queen Mary I of England?...yeah. So it made perfect sense when, one of the first celebrity endorsed (and most successful) perfumes, White Diamonds, was born.
