Farewell to a Legend: Steve Jobs

For the man that managed to make geek, chic and proved to the world that electronics can have their own sex appeal, this post is dedicated to Steve Jobs. So farewell to a legend whose innovation changed us all.

Steve Jobs has literally changed the world over the last ten years through his streamlined notebooks, groundbreaking iPods, addictive iPhones, and cool-factor iPads. He has created an iWorld that everyone wants to be a part of, and never stopped pushing that envelope. "There's an app for that" is now a common saying that can be applied anywhere. As a result of the innovation and design from Steve Jobs, he ignited the creativity of designers all over the world for Mac compatible accessories that if at all possible further the coolness of the Apple product.

Here's to the crazy one's, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently - they're not fond of rules… you can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones that are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. ~ Steve Jobs

In most people's vocabulary, design means veneer. It's interior decorating. It's the fabric of the curtains, of the sofa. But to me, nothing could be further to the meaning of design. Design is the fundamental soul of a human-made creation that ends up expressing itself in successive outer layers of the product or service. ~Steve Jobs

Fashionspiration: Cropped Top and High Waisted Jeans

I had a lovely weekend brunch with my roomies and what a day to celebrate the amazing Fall weather! I wore my Audrey trench walking to Isabella's on the Upper West Side, and then by the time we took a walk along Riverside Park it was high waisted jeans and cropped top weather! The fedora was of course just for good measure…

These Dolce & Gabbana high waisted jeans came after many months of shopping everywhere!
Where did I finally find them you might ask? Buffalo Exchange…$40…brand new still with tags.
Bet you didn't see that coming?! Have faith in your shopping, the item your heart is set on will always surface.

Speaking of my heart being set on something, here is my plate from Isabella's. Carmelized banana stuffed french toast, topped with Grand Marnier strawberries. Mmm I love NY!

For some reason I'm in a desert mood lately. Maybe its the serene feel of the sprawling wild west or maybe I'm subconsciously and desperately clinging to Summer as long as possible. Regardless, your travel how to of the day is brought to by Phoenix, Arizona! Note the desert color palette, touches of nature, and the guilded gold of the desert rocks? Phoenix…I can pack for that!

Royal Catwalk: London Fashion Week Recap

Bonjour mes chéris! Now that I have caught up on some errands I thought I would officially take the time to recap you on the runway rundowns from the last couple cities. Starting today with a London Fashion Week Recap. The Royal Catwalk in England's capital was a buzz with beautiful gowns and optimistic new trends for Spring/Summer 2012.

GREAT GATSBY
Something I noticed on the NYC runways (especially Tory Burch) that are also popping up in London is the revival of the Great Gatsby fashion. Dropped waist dresses of the 1920s, golf prep inspired ensembles, and the gilded glam that always accompanies art deco.

Here Christopher Kane gives you that Great Gatsby example.

TRIBAL
Vibrant color and emphatic patterns, get used to seeing these on the racks in surplus.

Burberry Prorsum gave a rich colorful display of this trend,

as well as David Koma but in a more architectural technique.

FLIRTY FROCKS
I love that this girly shape never truly goes out of style, but I haven't seen it this prevalent in retailers eyes for a while. The flirty flounce of the hem in a perfect figure flattering hourglass looks so great on the female silhouette. Not to mention in a soft chiffon, the fabric is as light as you will feel wearing it!

This Felder Felder showstopper is the perfect example.

COLOR BLOCKING
Keep that color blocking going and throw in some bright fun Spring colors to the mix. Not to mention mustard yellow which has quickly become the latest favorite Pantone.

This Roksanda Ilincic also features the lately popular paper bag waist that are on skirts in about every store. Caution: Only wear this if you are on the smaller side, this is one of those fashion pieces that are not kind to every womanly figure (trop domage bien sur!)

Peacock Inspiration: How to Stylishly Extract Inspiration

In your wardrobe, sometimes it is hard to pull inspiration from something you love and it not be cliche. Case in point, you may really love peacocks, as I do, so you wear a shirt with a peacock feather print. How about a way to be more creative with your fashion? Just as a designer may pull inspiration from one element for their latest collection but it is never literal, it may be the color palette, or the seductive feeling it portrays, or the texture. Here are some ideas for a bit of peacock inspiration in your wardrobe. Translate it to your obsession as you will...

The Slightly Too Literal Version (unless it's October 31st)

What Many People Might Do

Peacock Inspiration: Color

Peacock Inspiration: Soft Enveloping Texture

Peacock Inspiration: Seductive Silhouette

So you see, for well styled inspiration you must derive aspects from the muse, not literal cliches of it. What are you obsessed with lately and how will now creatively bring that into your wardrobe in a subtle yet stylish way?
