Curl-tastic Giveaway

Let me share with you something, I have curly, thick, long hair and by 23, I thought I had pretty much gotten it under control. Then I moved to France...and it hasn't curled properly in 6 months!

Do you have curly hair? Have you struggled with maintaining it all your life? I do and I have, and I am here to present to you, your solution! Ladies, presenting: DevaFuser. When I heard about this product, I was so intrigued because the design is so original, (and the founder herself has very curly hair) so it perked my interest. Of course after over 2 decades of being promised things for my difficult hair and only being disappointed, I had my doubts. Well the lovely people at Devachan Salons in New York City stand behind their product and dared me to try it...and guess what? IT'S AWESOME! It is hands down the best diffuser I have ever used and it makes my curls look wonderful. I was so excited. But this isn't only an answer to my problems, one lucky (and curly) Embellisher gets to win one of these babies for herself!

WHAT HAPPENED?
In 1988, the Deva line evolved from Lorraine Massey mixing botanical ingredients to find a solution for her own curly hair, her intent was never to revolutionize the curly hair world, but yet that is what DevaCurl is certainly doing.

WHAT IS IT?
The DevaFuser’s innovative hand-shape design fits easily underneath curls and uses 360-degree airflow to dry hair from the inside out. Conventional diffusers only allowed the hair to be dried on the surface, creating frizz on the top and leaving hair wet underneath. The DevaFuser gently dries the hair without creating frizz or disturbing the natural curl formation, According to its innovator, Denis DaSilva, using the DevaFuser is simple, “Just attach the DevaFuser to your hairdryer using the Universal Adapter.

Next, gently guide the DevaFuser onto the scalp at the nape, forehead, and temple regions, holding it for two minutes at each position to set the curl. The 360-degree airflow means you no longer have to move the diffuser around. You simply hold the DevaFuser in a couple of places and you have fabulous, frizz-free curls!.” Until now, people with curls had limited options for effectively styling and drying their hair. “Air drying” meant waiting hours until their hair felt dry and even then frizz and limp curls were frequent problems. The use of conventional diffusers often resulted in a dry, frizzy, hard-to-manage “scare-do.” Now, as long as people with curls have a blow dryer, the DevaFuser lets them look forward to a head full of bouncy, beautiful curls.

WHAT ELSE DOES DEVA OFFER?
Depart from the ordinary with this botanically drenched, 100% sulfate free, curl care system. DevaCurl took the “poo” out of shampoo by removing the harsh, dehydrating detergents found in conventional shampoos. Whether your hair is curly, wavy or chemically dehydrated, there’s a DevaCurl product that is right for you. Choose from DevaCurl or DevaCare and enjoy the benefits of shiny, manageable, frizz free curls. With DevaCurl, curly hair is not a trend…it’s a lifestyle.

"You can combat any curly hair conundrum when you embrace your natural hair texture" is the motto Massey lives by that has gotten her here today. From the gentle cleansers and hydrating conditioners, through the complete range of styling products any curly girl who chooses the right combination from the 14 different selections, will become a true believer.

Hey Jess! You know how horrible my curly hair is. I have been getting it professional straighten since I was in middle school and in high school started using the Japenese method. I wish that my hair was easier to handle, cause living in all this humidity is nuts on my hair!! Love and miss you!! Megan Lamberson

My worst curly hair memories are from camping trips. Getting my hair wet in the river, then dried in the sun, then wet, then dry all day made my hair look like a frizzy, flattened mess!

My worst curly hair trauma is when I was around 9 years old and I decided to get a paige boy hair cut. The stylist straightened my hair and it looked adorable until I took a shower and realized I would never be able to replicate how it looked before. I was mortified because I ended up looking like an old lady.

Ha, I do have curly hair and have experienced some wild days because of it. I would say worst curly hair trauma: at camp, my friends tried to straighten my hair in humid weather. All of the sudden, we started smelling something burning. It was my hair being singed off by the straightener!

P.S. Thanks for your sweet comment. I'm living near Strasbourg. I hear Lille is great. Are you as student or an assistant there?

when i was about 2.5 i had the mix of curly and wavy hair, My hair knotted and got tangled easily!! So i would cry and scream when my mom would try to brush it. So she strapped me down in my high chair and chopped my hair off (boy cut) I finally as a Freshman in High school decided to grow my hair out and by the time I was a senior my hair was down to my sholder blades!! and the Curls are back and stronger than ever!! Deva curl is the best!!!

My worst curly hair moment was when I was in high school. I was a swimmer for 17years total and we were always running from the pool to our cars outside. Well if you didn't cover up your hair properly I finally learned one day that your hair will freeze and snap off! The temp outside was in single digest and from the pool to the car and a cold drive home the few hairs that weren't in my hat actually froze and snapped off at the ends. Lets just say wear a hat if it's cold outside!

Too many culy traumas to choose... i have very curly curls that i have tried to hide until i found deva and curly girl but one trauma that still 'burns me' - Desperate to have straight hair for my wedding - the night before i was GHDing like a mad woman and slipped and burnt a line into the side of my cheek wchich was still very very visable on THE day and for weeks after and even still now 6 years on if you look close - should have just embraced the curl-ness.
Never again - curls rule - curls forever

I actually have naturally straight hair but I tried curling my hair with a curling iron. It looked great after the look was complete but after hours of sleep, my hair could be described as a mess! I went to school and my 8 of my friends told me I needed to start brushing my hair. haha
I would love to try this product since I have curly hair now!

Thank you for the chance and I hope you have a nice day.

I didn't appreciate my curls enough until now. I basically pulled my hair up in a ponytail right out of the shower. When I was in 3rd grade my mom decided that layers would be a good look on me (complete with bangs). She would load my hair with gel every morning, so it just looked and felt like straw. My 3rd grade picture is the worst, however...with stringy bangs, huge curls that wouldn't spring back up if you tried (actually...I'm not even sure they would have un-sprung if you'd have tried), big glasses, and braces (complete with missing teeth...ugh). I'm glad I've found my curl (even though a single chemical straightening adventure in college has left some of my hair without much curl at all) and actually enjoy wearing my hair down and showing off the springiness!

also a fan of both on facebook :)

My worst curly hair trauma was when my mom would attempt to cut my hair and never accounted for it shrinking up. I'd end up with bangs that ended 2 inches above my eyebrows!

I remember when I had picture day in my 8th grade and I got my haired simply washed and styled at an expensive place the day before. I had gotten my hair done once before and it came out great! Oh lord, when I woke up for my pictures I was so furious. My curls were dried, my hair came out so bushy on both sides, my natural hair color looked so dried, and my curls were not lively at all. So when it was my turn to take this picture, I ran to the bathroom and cried. I decided that maybe if I wet my curls it would look a little better. I just felt no one could understand because none of my classmates had curly hair like me. Wetting it did help, but since my hair needed moisture it only lasted for a few seconds. Everyone was happy for this day- except me! Still to this day, I hide my picture from my boyfriend and others so I would not have to explain that day. My parents hung this horrendous picture right next to my twin who had such a great picture. The worst hair day that, unfortunately, "hangs" on the wall.

Hey There,

Is it really only for Girls?
Whatever, i have a Story to tell :) it sounds Horrible but has a good side to it (damn, i killed the Drama :P)

When i was in 10th Grade (15 maybe?), i had my "I am different" period, i was Raised in an city in Israel… People didnt like the way i looked like, i had "longer" (not curly) hair than the other guys in town, i wore Metallica shirts to School, listened to Rock music (oh noes!!) and dealt differently with the girls…

All of those things werent very liked in that strict conservative society, one day, a teacher of mine called my father, telling him that he should "take care" of his son…
He didnt like the fact that i had "longer" hair…
My father ordered me to go get my hair cut, i protested and didnt want to do it (as everyone in that age does ^^) so we had a fight and took our ways…

On the same day, after my shower, my father attacked me from behind and shaved a part of my head with a razor, i had to let him shave it all off (looked like a reverse cherokee style)…

now you might think "Oh NOOO, poor child!!"… i actually thank my father for this action ^^
Since that day, my hair somehow magically turned curly, and i LOVE it!!!

my only problem is that it takes ages to dry,i have to wake up 2 hours before Class to wash it and let it dry… :(

i hope you enjoyed my short story ^^

P.S: yes, i am a guy

My worst curly hair trauma is my mother reciting the poem "There once was a girl who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead. When she was good, she was very, very good, but when she was bad she was horrid." That made me hate my curls! Until I discovered Lorraine's book "Curly Girl"about 8 years ago. Lorraine has changed my hair...and my life! I still have that curl in the middle of my forehead, but now I love it!

These are funny! I remember in fifth grade- when my hair started to turn curly- I didn't understand what was happening and wanted it straight. So I would walk around ALL day w/ this purple brush and keep brushing, every five minutes! When my friends used to tease me and take it away on the playground, I would be driven to tears!!! LOL I didn't let go and just let it be curly until 7th grade, but didn't learn how to properly care for it until recently!!! Love Deva!!!

My mom always kept my hair super short when I was a kid. It was much easier for her to maintain. So she had no clue that my hair was actually naturally curly. We moved when I was in 9th grade, and perms were all the big rage back then. So my mom "treated" me to a perm to try to make me feel better. Well, needless to say, my hair looked my like clown hair since it curled so tightly to my head. So I had to start off a new school year in a new school with clown hair.

I use DevaCurl products, and they are the best thing to happen to my hair.

Hello my favorite fashinista - it's Rae. Ok - you already know this story, but... Once upon a time in the eighth grade I decided to emphasize my already curly hair with a perm. I was going to be different from every other girl at school with straight hair. I had it cut in layers first to give the curls extra bounce and then permed. I came out looking like a poodle with the little puffy fro if you're one of those people who compare humans to their animal look likes or if you prefer plants a pom pom tree. I went to school for one day like this with a scarf and after merciless teasing went straight back to the hairdresser to get it removed. Well - due to the cut up layers - even the straight hair looked disheveled - it was like a female Billy Ray mullet. I had it all chopped off into a bob and did not cut my hair for 6 months. But luckily I had a really good friend who supported my through my hairtastrophy. And she is still one of my best friends to this day and has supported me through even bigger catastrophes. Love her

One of my worst curly hair traumas was using an indian shikakai bar for the hair and I thought it was meant to be used all over the hair . Never did I think that after that my hair would be so dry like horse hair . It was a nightmare and nothing seemed to soften it so I decided the only way was to go to the salon and get a cut .
Sometimes , eventhough the product may be natural it doesn't mean it is best for us as curly haired women . I still struggle from day to day with my hair and have tried almost everything from using oils , to conditioners , and shampoos . But I try to avoid products that have too many chemical ingredients .

I was a curly-haired child born to a straight-haired mom who had no idea what to do with my hair. I don't have just one instance of embarrassing hair, it was more like my entire childhood. She always brushed it so it was incredibly frizzy and at one point she tried to cut it and turned it into a mullet. In high school I went out an a limb and asked for layers which were then cut in horribly wrong and I had another mullet. I cried and hid in my closet and refused to go to school until it got fixed. I had to get most of the length cut off to keep it from look like a mullet. The worst was in middle school when I always brushed it while it was dry and it was massive. Everyone made fun of me and called it the atom bomb. I'm finally figuring out how to do my hair and I'm starting to like it, but with any humidity it goes back to being a disaster.

Great giveaway! And great blog!

My worst perm experience was when I was in 2nd grade and my mom made me get a really tight spiral perm. My hair held the curl REALLY well and she made me wait 2 years before I could perm it again. My hair on top (about half) was stick straight and the bottom half was super curly. Not a good look!

I'm following you now. :)

I hated my kinky hair - I cut it all off once and then everyone at work started calling me pat benetar. After letting it grow out it just had this kink in it I hated!. After I had two children I started having these beautiful curls. Then I happened to stumble across the Curly Girl book. Have been using deva products for awhile now. I have gone back and forth. I am defintely staying away from shampoo, now that I see how soft, lively, healthy and beautiful my hair is. I love getting compliments on it as well. And I love the reactions I get when I asked how I maintain the curls - "No shampoo" the looks I get are great! Then I start educating!

The first perm I ever got (back in the day) had those really harsh chemicals and it was just awful to endure, but I was so thrilled with the results. Then *poof* it was completely flat the next day. Not sure how that happened, but I was really disappointed, all those stinky smells for nothin. :oP
Now, my hair is really wavy, curly in the back (naturally) and completely straight in front. Ick.

I have naturally wavy hair which my Mom thought would be better with a 80's perm for some reason. It was a wild frizzy mess for almost a year. She did the same thing to my little sister who had perfectly straight hair only she kept on trying to get the perfect perm for years.
I would love to try this product.

Was trying to grow out my layers in the early 1990's and decided to get a spiral perm. If I only knew how to manage my curls- I would never have even thought to get a perm. Well- turns out I did not know how to manage the spiral perm either!!! My hair was beyond frizzy that I put cave-women to shame! I ended up wearing it in a ponytail for about 2 weeks before my older sister- also a curly q- took pity on me and taught me to leave it air-dry. What a concept! I have never looked back since. Love my curls and being a Deva Girl.

My worst curly hair memory is difficult to choose, simply because I have so many of them! I will begin with 'the beginning'~ my two types of hair...
When I was in the 4th grade, I contracted something called, Cat-Scratch Fever. I was in the hospital for two weeks. The doctors gave me MASSIVE amounts of antibiotics in an attempt to control the infection that was attacking my body. As a result of the antibiotics, the hair on the crown of my head became straw-like and frizzy beyond belief. Multiple hair-stylists have commented how it seems like they are cutting the hair from two different heads. Even today, at the age of 40, it is evident that the crown of my head has a totally different curl pattern and moisture level than the hair on the remaining parts of my head.
I am sure all of you curly girls out there remember the 'middle school years'... for me, they were filled with 'middle school tears'. The summer before 7th grade, I had my hair trimmed in an attempt to control the frizz. I remember the hairstylist asking me, "Are you SURE you want your hair cut this short?" My thoughts were that you could simply cut the frizzy hair off, and the rest would grow in healthy. That was the year that I learned that curly hair must grow BIGGER before it gets LONGER. The haircut consequences stretched into high school, when it finally started to get a little bit longer.... oh, and 'cutting the frizz out' didn't work!
Today I have Deva Curl. I have been using it for almost one month. My hair is healthier than ever. I am still experiencing the 'learning curve'... as I figure out the amount of product and type of product that is best for each part of my head. I am so grateful that I stumbled across this product and your blog! I will be adding Heaven to my routine as you suggested for corkscrew curls...Thanks, again!
